Hello from Fallujah, Iraq
Hello again everyone, The situation changed quickly here in Fallujah, Iraq. The broadcast media does not paint a very accurate picture of things here. While we have given Iraqi Defense forces some control of the city, we still maintain overall control of the city and have merely pulled back. If necessary the Marines here are ready and more than willing to finish the job. And we are well aware that some of those working with us this week were shooting at us last week. The situation has allowed us to focus on other areas, and we are continuing to engage the enemy, find weapons caches and provide security to the area. Marines replaced the 82nd
Airborne here, a good Army unit, but we conduct business differently.
In the word of one local Iraqi who works on camp said, “Army likes
to sleep. The events at Abu Ghurayb
in on way reflect the quality of service, commitment and integrity by
all of our forces here. Over the past few days I logged about 1,000 miles on convoy ops to Kuwait City and back, crossing the Euphrates and passing Abu Ghurayb prison twice. It was largely uneventful, but I have no doubt that some of the suspicious vehicles and activity we saw are part of the insurgency stalking convoys. But we rolled heavy armed, experienced, and well rehearsed. Many of the poor children waved at us as we passed and hoped for handouts, but a few threw rocks when they didn’t get anything. We passed the remains of fuel trucks and other vehicles destroyed by IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices) and raids. In Falluja we are giving toys and candy to kids and farm tools and seeds to adults. Already we’ve seen 120+ degree heat. It is significantly hotter and dryer in Kuwait, and it can be fairly humid here in Fallujah at times here. Here is a link to some interesting
facts to Iraq. Sincerely, Tim's
